About
Deerlodge Park Campground occupies a shaded flat beneath cottonwood trees where the Yampa River enters Yampa Canyon in the Colorado portion of Dinosaur National Monument. The seven walk-in tent sites serve both casual campers and rafters launching multi-day trips through the canyon. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available year-round, while drinking water spigots operate seasonally. The campground is strictly first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Campers pay on-site by scanning a QR code with the Recreation.gov mobile app. Download the app before arriving since cellular service is limited. Stays are limited to 14 consecutive nights. Access requires a 17-mile drive on Deerlodge Road from Highway 40. The campground is open year-round but winter snow can make the road impassable. Late spring runoff can flood the campground when the Yampa exceeds 18,000 cfs. Check USGS flow data before visiting.
Directions
From Highway 40, turn north at the Dinosaur National Monument sign onto Deerlodge Road (also labeled Dinosaur Park Service Rd) and drive 17 miles. The campground is 59 miles west of Craig, CO or 51 miles east of Dinosaur, CO.
