About
Located at the head of Dry Valley in Lincoln County, Echo Canyon State Park Group Campground provides a scenic retreat in eastern Nevada's Great Basin desert environment. The park centers around a 65-acre reservoir created by Echo Canyon Dam in 1969-70, offering excellent fishing for rainbow trout, largemouth bass, crappie, and occasional German brown trout. The group facilities accommodate up to 70 people with shade ramadas, barbecue grills, picnic tables, comfort stations, and drinking water. The park offers year-round camping opportunities with campground facilities that include flush toilets and drinking water. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with eagles, hawks, owls, songbirds, and various waterfowl including mallards, teals, and herons. Common mammals include deer, coyotes, cottontails, and occasional bobcats. The 2.5-mile Ash Canyon trail provides access to the park's backcountry, climbing 300 feet to the valley rim before descending into dramatic steep-sided canyon walls. The area holds historical significance as part of the Mormon trail, with thousand-year-old Fremont pictographs, stone flakes, and pottery marking the legacy of seasonal hunting and gathering. Park winterization is in effect October through April. A 14-day camping limit within any 30-day period is enforced.
