About
Canyon Campground sits along the scenic Yellowstone River approximately 15 miles north of Gardiner, Montana on US Highway 89. This 17-site Forest Service campground in the Custer Gallatin National Forest offers year-round access to the greater Yellowstone ecosystem, making it a practical staging point for wildlife viewing and hiking in the area. The campground provides fundamental amenities for self-sufficient camping: vault toilets, picnic tables at each site, metal fire rings, and bear-resistant food storage boxes. There is no potable water available on site, so campers must bring adequate supplies. Trash service is not provided; pack-it-out principles apply. ADA-accessible toilet facilities, tables, fire grates, and food boxes are available. With parking spurs averaging 12 by 50 feet and roads unsuitable for vehicles longer than 48 feet, the campground works best for tent campers and those with smaller RVs or trailers. Sites are first-come, first-served at $10 per night, with an additional $5 fee for extra vehicles.
