About
Ditch Creek Campground is a quiet, lightly-used campground nestled along Ditch Creek in the Black Hills National Forest, approximately 19 miles west of Hill City. The campground sits in an open area with spruce trees along the creek, offering a peaceful setting in the high Limestone Plateau region about 5 miles south of Deerfield Reservoir. In 2022, the camping sites were completely reconstructed in partnership with Forest Recreation Management, Inc. and the Black Hills National Forest. This renovation modernized the campground to accommodate today's larger RVs, improve accessibility, enhance fire safety, and reduce resource damage. The 13 sites are available strictly on a first-come-first-served basis with no reservations accepted. The campground operates on a seasonal schedule with peak season rates of $22 per night. During the off-season, several sites remain open and available for free camping, making it an attractive option for winter and shoulder-season visitors. The location provides access to the extensive Ditch Creek 62-inch trail system, a popular network for ATV and UTV recreation that features over 100 miles of trails through meadows, aspen groves, dense spruce forests, and along mountain streams.
Directions
From Hill City, travel west on Highway 17 (Deerfield Road) for approximately 19 miles to Forest Service Road 291. Turn left (south) onto FSR 291 and travel 4 miles to the campground on the right.
