About

Located in the heart of Black Hills National Forest, Oreville Campground provides a peaceful retreat on a scenic hillside 4 miles south of Hill City. The 16 campsites are spread among aspen groves, ponderosa pines, and grassy areas, with many sites offering generous spacing and a sense of privacy. The campground accommodates tents, trailers, and RVs up to 51 feet on gravel back-in driveways. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets centrally located. The campground operates seasonally through late September, transitioning to first-come-first-served off-season access through October 31, weather permitting. During the regular season, reservations are available through Recreation.gov alongside some walk-in sites. The location along Highway 16/385 provides excellent access to Black Hills attractions including Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave National Park, and Custer State Park. Outdoor enthusiasts can access the 100-mile George S. Mickelson Trail nearby or tackle the hike to Black Elk Peak, the highest point east of the Rockies.
