About
Small Vehicle Campground is located within the Scab Creek Recreation Area in the foothills of the Wind River Mountains at approximately 8,200 feet elevation. The campground provides 12 sites including one group site, and serves as a base for hikers and backpackers accessing the Scab Creek Wilderness Study Area and the greater Bridger Wilderness trail system in the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
The Scab Lake trailhead is located at the entrance to the campground, while the Scab Creek trailhead is positioned along the access road at the backpacker parking area. Pack stock are not allowed in this campground; those with horses or stock trailers should use the nearby Large Vehicle Campground within the same recreation area.
The campground is accessed via a gravel BLM road from the town of Boulder, requiring about 6.5 miles of travel on unpaved surfaces. Basic amenities include vault toilets and potable water during the operating season. The high-elevation location offers cool summer temperatures ideal for hiking but also means early and late season weather can be challenging.
