About
Double Bay Cabin offers a truly remote Alaskan wilderness experience on Hinchinbrook Island at the entrance to Prince William Sound. The cabin sits on a narrow peninsula with Double Bay on one side and Prince William Sound on the other, near a tidal lagoon surrounded by muskeg and mature spruce-hemlock forest. Wildlife abounds including Sitka black-tailed deer, brown bears, migratory waterfowl, and occasionally humpback and killer whales visible offshore. The 12x14 pre-cut cedar log cabin is equipped with wooden bunks for up to six guests, a table and benches, wood and oil stoves for heating, a rainwater catchment barrel, and basic tools including an axe, splitting maul, and saw. There is no running water, electricity, or heating oil provided. An outdoor pit toilet is available. Guests must bring sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, potable water, #1 heating oil, food, cookware, flashlights, firewood, toilet paper, first aid supplies, and garbage bags. Several creeks flow into the bay offering fishing for pink and chum salmon starting mid-July, coho salmon from mid-August, and halibut in the saltwater. Access to creeks from shore can be difficult depending on tides; a small inflatable boat is recommended. Hunting opportunities include brown bear in spring and fall, and deer from late summer through late fall. Weather can delay departure, so bring extra supplies for 2-5 days.
