About
Eagle Rock Campground is nestled along the bank of the Wild and Scenic North Umpqua River in the Umpqua National Forest, situated in a stand of old growth Douglas fir and deciduous trees. This quiet, shaded campground offers easy road access and sees lighter use than nearby Horseshoe Bend and Boulder Flat campgrounds, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking a more peaceful camping experience. The North Umpqua River runs adjacent to the campground and is renowned for outstanding salmon and steelhead fishing as well as exhilarating whitewater challenges in late spring and summer months. The popular 79-mile North Umpqua Trail, with multiple trailheads in the vicinity, offers hikers and mountain bikers of all abilities the opportunity to explore diverse terrain. The campground's namesake, an enormous rock formation, is a popular day hike destination and also offers challenging routes for rock climbers. Nearby Twin Lakes provides spectacular views for picnicking and wildlife viewing. The Umpqua National Forest offers diverse landscapes shaped by explosive geologic events. The translation of "Umpqua" meaning "thundering waters" defines the area, with high mountain lakes, heart-stopping rapids, peaceful ponds, and thundering waterfalls including the 272-foot Watson Falls. The campground is also within reach of Crater Lake National Park and the scenic Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway, which travels 172 miles through diverse river and mountain landscapes.
