About
Deer Creek Cabin is a historic Forest Service guard station located 13 miles from Alpine, Wyoming on Greys River Road. The quaint two-room cabin sleeps six guests on three bunkbeds with mattresses and offers a rustic backcountry experience with modern conveniences including propane heating, lights, a cooktop, and refrigerator. The cabin provides indoor plumbing with flush toilet, shower, and drinking water from approximately mid-June through Labor Day, with a vault toilet available year-round next to the cabin. The cabin compound sits among lodgepole pine trees and serves as a free graze area for Forest Service horses during summer months, typically throughout June. Greys River flows across the road, offering excellent fishing opportunities, while hiking, biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicle trails begin nearby. A visitor corral is provided behind the cabin for guests bringing horses. Winter access requires snowmobile travel on groomed trails, while spring and fall access depends on weather and road conditions along the gravel forest road.
Directions
From Afton, Wyoming, take Highway 89 north about 31 miles to Alpine. At Alpine, turn right (east) onto Greys River Road (Forest Road 10138) and travel about 13 miles. The cabin is on the left (east) side of the road, just past Murphy Creek Campground. Access is along a low-speed gravel road.
