About
Deep Hole Recreation Area is nestled along the banks of the Toccoa River in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia, approximately two hours north of Atlanta. This intimate U.S. Forest Service campground features nine well-spaced campsites arranged in a single loop, with sites 5 and 9 positioned directly next to the river for prime fishing and water access. The area is renowned for trout fishing, with the nearby Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery (5.5 miles away) stocking the river weekly during peak season. The campground serves as the starting point for the Toccoa River Canoe Trail, a 13.8-mile designated water trail that offers moderate paddling downstream to Sandy Bottoms Recreation Area. In addition to fishing and paddling, visitors can enjoy tubing, picnicking, and wildlife watching. The area is home to deer, turkey, black bear, and various other wildlife. The mild climate and four distinct seasons make this an attractive destination year-round, with fall foliage particularly spectacular in October when the hardwood forests transform into brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows. Nearby attractions include Cooper Creek and Rock Creek recreation areas, both within ten minutes, as well as the towns of Blue Ridge, Blairsville, and Dahlonega. The campground is primitive with vault toilets but no water, electricity, or hookups. Cell phone service is unavailable at the campground. A $5 day-use fee applies to non-camping visitors.
