About
Frank Gross Campground sits on the banks of Rock Creek in the Ed Jenkins National Recreation Area, offering a secluded escape in the North Georgia mountains. The eight campsites are arranged for privacy among the hardwoods, with sites 2 and 5 positioned directly alongside the creek. Each site includes a tent pad, picnic table, lantern pole, and grill. A double vault toilet serves the campground, but there is no potable water so campers must bring their own supply.
Trout fishing is the primary draw here. Rock Creek and nearby Mill Creek support both stocked and wild trout populations, and the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery is just a quarter-mile downstream with a visitor kiosk and outdoor raceway viewing. For hikers, the Appalachian Trail crosses Forest Service Road 69 about 4 miles south, and the Benton MacKaye Trail crosses FS Road 333 roughly 4 miles north, featuring a scenic 260-foot suspension bridge over the Toccoa River.
The 5-mile drive down Rock Creek Road to the campground follows the creek through a scenic stretch of forest. The town of Blue Ridge, with restaurants, breweries, and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, is about 30 minutes away. Cell service is unreliable due to terrain.
