About

Jones Creek Dispersed Area is a primitive camping destination in the Blue Ridge Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Lumpkin County, Georgia. The area features roughly 8-10 designated dispersed camping sites positioned along Jones Creek, a restored stream known for its wild brown trout population. Campers also have access to Jones Creek Falls nearby. Access is via Forest Service Road 77A, which can be quite rough, particularly after rain. High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended, and the road is not suitable for RVs, trailers, or standard sedans. The sites can accommodate groups, with some creekside spots large enough for multiple vehicles. As dispersed camping on National Forest land, this area is entirely primitive with no developed facilities. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, bringing all water, supplies, and packing out all trash. A 14-day camping limit applies, after which campers must leave for 30 days before returning to any National Forest dispersed site.

Directions

From Dahlonega, head north on US-19/GA-60. Turn left onto GA-60 Spur toward Suches. After several miles, turn onto Forest Service Road 77, then onto FS Road 77A to reach the dispersed camping sites along Jones Creek.
