About

Rock Creek Dispersed Area provides backcountry camping opportunities along Rock Creek Road in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. Located in Fannin County approximately two hours north of Atlanta, this primitive camping zone offers solitude in the Blue Ridge mountains with no developed amenities. Dispersed camping means finding your own campsite along forest roads; there are no designated sites, toilets, water, or trash facilities. The area follows Rock Creek, a quality trout stream with both wild and stocked populations. The nearby Frank Gross Campground sits on Rock Creek's banks for those seeking a developed option with reservations. Dispersed campers should bring all water and supplies, properly store food due to black bears, and completely extinguish all campfires before leaving. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days, after which campers must relocate at least one mile away for 30 days before returning to the same area. Leave No Trace principles are required.

Directions

From Blairsville, take Skeenah Gap Road south 7.8 miles. Turn left onto Highway 60 south for 3.4 miles, then turn right onto Rock Creek Road. Dispersed camping opportunities are found along the forest road.
