About
Deep Creek Campground is situated in a remote location near Sand Lake in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest at an elevation just over 10,000 feet. The high-altitude setting means cool summers, brief autumns, and early, long-lasting winters. The campground provides 11 small campsites with one pull-through site, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility with no trash service provided.
The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Snowy Range, with nearby trails including Rock Creek Trail, Sheep Lake Trail, and the short but scenic Crater Lake Trail. Sand Lake, located adjacent to the campground, spans 92 acres and is stocked with brook trout, rainbow trout, and Splake by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. The surrounding area contains over 100 lakes offering diverse fishing opportunities, though live-bait fish are prohibited in forest waters.
With access to extensive hiking trails suitable for both day trips and extended backcountry adventures, plus opportunities for mountain biking, wildlife viewing, and photography, Deep Creek Campground appeals to visitors seeking a more primitive camping experience in the Snowy Range. The remote location requires driving approximately 50 miles from Saratoga via Forest Roads 100 and 101, or from Elk Mountain via Carbon County Road 101.
