About
Deep Creek Campground is a high-elevation camping destination in the Snowy Range of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, situated at just over 10,000 feet near Sand Lake. The campground offers 12 sites, including 11 small campsites and one pull-through site, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Two vault toilets and potable water are available, but campers must pack out all trash as there is no garbage service.
The surrounding area provides excellent recreation opportunities. Sand Lake, a 92-acre lake with a maximum depth of 15 feet, is stocked by Wyoming Game and Fish with brook trout, rainbow trout, and splake. Live bait fish is prohibited in forest lakes and streams. Nearby hiking includes Rock Creek Trail, Sheep Lake Trail, and the short Crater Lake Trail. Mountain biking and OHV road riding are also permitted.
Due to the high elevation, summers are cool and winters arrive early. The campground operates seasonally, typically opening in late June or early July depending on snow conditions, and closing in early fall. Maximum stay is 14 days, with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
