About

Deep Creek Campground is a high-elevation Forest Service campground located near Sand Lake at just over 10,000 feet in the Snowy Range of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. The 12-site campground includes 11 small sites and one pull-through site, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Two vault toilets serve the campground, and potable water is available during the main season. The area experiences cool summers and brief autumns, with winter arriving early and staying late due to the elevation. Water, toilet, and trash services are not available after Labor Day. This is strictly a pack-it-in-pack-it-out campground with no trash service at any time. Dogs are allowed but must remain on leash. Nearby recreation includes hiking on Rock Creek Trail, Sheep Lake Trail, and the short Crater Lake Trail to a scenic alpine lake. Sand Lake, a 92-acre lake stocked with brook trout, rainbow trout, and splake, is within close proximity for fishing. Boats must be carried a short distance to reach the lake.
