About
Crescent Moon sits beneath the stunning Cathedral Rock, one of the most photographed scenes in the American Southwest. This popular day-use picnic area at Red Rock Crossing features historical buildings and towering Arizona Sycamore trees along the crystal clear waters of Oak Creek. Visitors marvel at the reflection of the red cliffs in the water and enjoy picnicking, fishing, and wading in the creek. The site is located in Sedona's high desert region at the base of the Mogollon Rim, where unique erosion has shaped spectacular canyons and buttes. Flora, fauna and rock formations in the surrounding area offer excellent photography opportunities. The site can become crowded during peak times; early morning or weekday visits offer a more serene experience. A group Ramada shelter is available for reservation, and weddings are permitted by reservation only. Within minutes, visitors can access hiking, biking and scenic drives through Oak Creek Canyon. The site is conveniently close to the resort town of Sedona with its golf courses, restaurants, lodging, and shopping. No overnight camping is permitted at this day-use facility.
Directions
From Sedona, drive west on State Route 89A. Just outside town, turn south on Upper Red Rock Loop Road (Forest Road 216). Drive about 1.5 miles and follow the signs to Red Rock Crossing. All roads are paved. Located 37 miles south of Flagstaff, 7 miles southwest of Sedona.
