About

Chavez Crossing Group Campground occupies a scenic location along Oak Creek in Arizona's Red Rock district, surrounded by Arizona sycamore and cypress groves. The campground sits at the base of the Mogollon Rim in a high desert region between 5,000 and 7,000 feet elevation, where unique erosion patterns have created the spectacular canyons and buttes that define the area. The campground offers three separate group sites that can accommodate a combined total of 110 people when all sites are reserved together. Paved access roads make the campground accessible, and its location adjacent to the Poco Diablo Resort places it just 2 miles south of Sedona on Highway 179. This proximity allows campers to blend outdoor recreation with access to Sedona's shopping, dining, and nightlife. Oak Creek provides opportunities for wading and fishing in crystal-clear water, while nearby attractions include Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, Munds Mountain Wilderness, and the Red Rock/Secret Mountain Wilderness area. The surrounding canyons contain abandoned dwellings and rock art from early inhabitants, and numerous hiking trails and swimming holes are within a short drive.

Directions

From Flagstaff: Take I-17 south to Highway 89A, go south through Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona, turn left onto Highway 179, go south approximately 2 miles, turn right on Oak Creek Cliffs Drive. Campground is on the left adjacent to Poco Diablo Resort. From Phoenix: Take I-17 to Exit 298 (Sedona), travel 12.7 miles north on Highway 179, turn left on Oak Creek Cliffs Drive.
