About

Located in the Virginia Kendall Unit of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Ledges and Octagon Shelters are historic structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933 and 1941. These rustic pavilions provide a scenic setting for family reunions, group gatherings, and picnics amid the park's forested landscape near the famous Ritchie Ledges rock formations. Ledges Shelter is the larger of the two, accommodating up to 75 guests with eight indoor picnic tables, eight outdoor tables in an adjacent pavilion, two fireplaces, and a large outdoor grill. Octagon Shelter is an eight-sided pavilion that holds up to 50 people with seven picnic tables, two fireplaces, and an outdoor grill. The Octagon's walls are removable and are taken down from May 15 through October 14 for an open-air experience. Both shelters are fully ADA accessible and feature flush restrooms year-round, limited electricity for small household appliances, and drinking water available at a fountain from May 1 through September 15. These are day-use facilities only; no overnight camping is permitted. Alcohol is prohibited in the park, and music must be kept at or below 60 decibels.
