Cottonwood Point
Open year-round with reservations available through Recreation.gov. Restrooms and shower facilities are closed November 1 through March 31 for winter.
About
Cottonwood Point sits along the north shore of Marion Reservoir, a 6,200-acre impoundment completed by the Corps of Engineers in 1968. The campground draws visitors with its mature tree cover and direct shoreline access, making it a popular destination for fishing, boating, and swimming. Two boat ramps between sites 62 and 67 put anglers on the water quickly, while the adjacent beach offers a designated swim area. The 164 individual campsites range from basic electric to full water/electric hookups. Each site includes a covered picnic table, fire ring, and grill on a gravel pad. Three shower houses with flush restrooms serve the campground during the main season, though facilities close from November 1 through March 31 for winter. A dump station, playground, and the one-mile Willow Walk Nature Trail add convenience and recreation options. The surrounding 6,000 acres of public land support hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. White-tailed deer, pelicans, raccoons, and various waterfowl frequent the area. Nearby Hillsboro and Marion offer restaurants, shops, and annual art and crafts shows.
Directions
From Marion, Kansas, take Highway 56 south for about 4 miles. Turn north on Old Mill Road and continue almost three miles, then follow signs to the campground.
