About
Kanza View is a primitive camping area situated on a scenic hilltop at Council Grove Lake, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The park is located at the east end of Council Grove Dam just off Kansas Highway 177, offering some of the most spectacular views of the 3,310-acre reservoir. The campground provides five undeveloped campsites designed for tent camping. While the park sits adjacent to the lake with breathtaking vistas, access to the water is limited due to steep, rocky terrain, making fishing and boating more challenging from this location. The landscape features open grassy areas interspersed with mature Cottonwood and Oak trees, providing natural shade. The park also includes a day-use picnic pavilion with six tables that can accommodate up to 40 people. The facility has masonry vault toilets and a single shared water hydrant located near the pavilion. This primitive setting makes it ideal for tent campers seeking a quieter, more rustic experience while still enjoying the amenities of Council Grove Lake. The nearby town of Council Grove offers historic sites, and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is 18 miles south.
