About
Neosho Park Campground is located on Council Grove Lake in the heart of Kansas' Flint Hills region. The lake was created by a dam built in 1964 and now provides recreational opportunities on 3,310 acres. The campground offers 8 reservable sites with electric hookups, a mix of shaded and open grassy areas, and direct access to a boat ramp.
The lake is known for excellent fishing, particularly for crappie and catfish. Council Grove was the first lake in Kansas to receive stocking of Saugeye. Boaters will find convenient lake access from the campground's ramp. Hiking opportunities include the Pioneer Nature Trail, known for its wildlife viewing and wildflowers. The surrounding 2,700 acres of hunting lands support populations of quail, prairie chicken, wild turkey, and deer.
The location is historically significant as the area where the Osage Indians signed a treaty establishing the Old Santa Fe Trail. The nearby town of Council Grove, just 2 miles southeast, is a National Historic District with seven Santa Fe National Historic Trail sites. The campground also serves as a starting point for the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway, which traverses the tallgrass prairie ecosystem.
Directions
From I-70, take Highway 177 south for 30 miles. Continue west across the dam road, then right onto City Lake Road. After one hundred yards turn right into the campground entrance.
