About
Cottonwood Cabin is a historic rental cabin located at 3,100 feet elevation along the banks of the Entiat River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Originally constructed in the 1940s to house Forest Service fire, trail, and campground crew personnel, the facility now provides visitors with a peaceful mountain retreat accessible by standard passenger vehicles over gravel roads. The 20' x 16' one-room cabin can accommodate up to four people and includes hot and cold running water during summer months, a propane cook stove, wall heater, and solar-powered indoor lights. Furnishings include a dining table with chairs, a futon sofa that converts to a double bed, and a separate double bed. The small kitchen is equipped with basic pots, pans, silverware, and plates. Outdoors, guests have access to a private shower facility (key accessed via combination lock), vault toilet, picnic table, and campfire ring. A small area for pitching one tent is also available on site. An adjacent barn and corral can be reserved in advance through the Entiat Ranger Station. Nestled in a mature lodgepole pine and spruce forest, the cabin sits four miles above Entiat Falls on the Entiat River, where anglers can fish for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, and eastern brook trout in the river's shallow riffles and pools. The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, and horseback riding. Nearby attractions include the Silver Falls National Recreation Trail (1.8 miles to a 141-foot cascade), Box Canyon geological formation, and Entiat Falls. Wildlife in the area includes mule deer, black bears, cougars, moose, pine marten, bald and golden eagles, and various woodpeckers and owls.
