About
Chiwawa Horse Camp is a specialized equestrian facility located near the confluence of Rock Creek and the Chiwawa River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Situated approximately 15 miles up Chiwawa River Road at 2,500 feet elevation, this campground caters specifically to horseback riders and pack animal users exploring the surrounding wilderness. The campground offers 7 spacious pull-through sites designed to accommodate horse trailers and RVs. Each site can host a maximum of 2 vehicles and either 2 tents or 1 RV plus 1 tent. Horse facilities include corrals for stock, and the campground is wheelchair accessible. From this location, riders can access the Basalt Ridge Trail #1527 and Rock Creek Trail #1509, providing entry into hundreds of miles of backcountry trails throughout the Wenatchee National Forest. This is a first-come, first-served facility operating seasonally from late May through early October. The campground features vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own drinking water. Payment can be made on-site using the Scan & Pay mobile feature through the Recreation.gov app, though visitors should download the app before arrival due to limited cellular service in the area.
