An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the Washington Department of Ecology An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Chelan and Douglas Counties until Wednesday September 2 at 10am due to current and expected smoke from regional fires. Particulate matter (PM2.5) may reach Unhealthy levels for areas downwind from active wildfires. Be sure to check air monitors in your area before outdoor activities. When air quality is Unhealthy, everyone should reduce exposure. Limit time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and follow tips for cleaner indoor air.

About

Chiwawa Horse Camp sits at 2,500 feet elevation near the confluence of Rock Creek and the Chiwawa River, roughly 15 miles up the Chiwawa River Road from Lake Wenatchee. The campground caters specifically to equestrians, with 7 long pull-through spurs that can accommodate horse trailers. From camp, riders can access Basalt Ridge Trail #1527 and Rock Creek Trail #1509 for backcountry exploration. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Sites cost $22 per night with an $11 fee for additional vehicles. A maximum of 2 vehicles per site is permitted, along with either 2 tents or 1 RV plus 1 tent. Interagency Senior and Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on the occupied site fee. Payment can be made via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature, though visitors should download the app before arrival as cellular service may be limited. Facilities include vault toilets and wheelchair-accessible features, but potable water is not available. Campers should bring adequate water supplies. The campground typically operates seasonally and may be affected by snow or road conditions at higher elevations.

Directions

From Leavenworth, take US-2 North for 15 miles to Coles Corner. Turn right on WA-207 (Lake Wenatchee Highway) and drive 4.4 miles. Turn right onto Chiwawa Loop Road and travel 0.4 miles, staying right at the intersection. Take the second left onto Chiwawa River Road (Forest Road 6200) and follow for approximately 15 miles to the campground.
