Cooper Lake State Park South Sulphur is one of two units of Cooper Lake State Park, situated on the south side of Cooper Lake in Hopkins County, Texas. The campground offers diverse camping options with 92 campsites featuring electric and water hookups including both 30-amp and 50-amp service, with a mix of back-in and pull-through sites. For tent campers, 15 walk-in sites are available in the Oak Grove area, located approximately 100 yards from parking. The park is particularly notable for its equestrian facilities, featuring dedicated horse campsites with access to the 10.5-mile Buggy Whip Equestrian Trail that traverses nearly 600 acres of shaded forest. The park provides extensive recreational opportunities including fishing from shore (no license required), boating with boat ramps and docks, swimming, and kayaking with rentals available. Facilities include fish cleaning stations, modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and a park store selling supplies and firewood. The campground features ADA-accessible sites, screened shelters, and cabins with full amenities. Located less than 30 minutes from Sulphur Springs, Commerce, and Cooper, the park is within 90 minutes of Dallas.

Directions

From Dallas: Take I-30 East to Exit 122 in Sulphur Springs. Go North on SH 19 for 10 miles, then West on State Highway 71 for 4 miles. Take FM 3505 North for 1 mile. From Commerce: Travel East on State Highway 11 for 7 miles, then north for 4.2 miles on FM 2653. Continue on State Highway 71 for 7.5 miles, then North for 1 mile on FM 3505 to the park entrance.
