Located 1.5 miles southeast of Bonham in Fannin County, Bonham State Park is a hidden gem offering natural beauty and tranquility just northeast of Dallas. This 568-acre park centers around a peaceful 65-acre lake created during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose legacy lives on in the park's historic stonework, bridges, and facilities. The park provides 20 developed campsites including two full hookup sites with sewer, water, and 30/50-amp electric service, 12 sites with water and 20/30/50-amp electric hookups, and seven tent-only sites with water and 20-amp electric. All sites feature picnic tables, fire rings, upright grills, and lantern holders, with restrooms and showers nearby. A group camp accommodates up to 50 people with six sites, and a separate barracks facility with group hall and kitchen serves up to 94 people. Outdoor recreation includes 8.75 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking, ranging from the easy 1.3-mile Lake Loop Trail to the challenging 2.7-mile Bois d'Arc Trail. The lake offers excellent fishing with a lighted fishing pier and boat ramp (5-mph speed limit enforced). Paddle boat, kayak, and canoe rentals are available daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. A park store, playground, swimming area, and pavilion for day use complete the amenities. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with headquarters operating 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Directions

From Dallas, take Highway 75 North to Highway 121. Continue north on Highway 121 to Highway 56 East at Bonham. Continue east on Highway 56 to Highway 78 South. Take Highway 78 South and turn left onto FM 271 and go two miles to Park Road 24.
