About

Lake Tawakoni State Park encompasses 376 acres of oak forest along more than five miles of shoreline on the 37,879-acre Lake Tawakoni reservoir in Hunt County. Located just 50 miles east of Dallas and 12 miles west of Emory, this state park offers a peaceful retreat with diverse recreational opportunities for camping, fishing, boating, and hiking. The park provides 78 campsites across two loops: the Spring Point Camping Loop features 32 sites with water and electric hookups (30/50 amp), including 16 full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections. The White Deer Reach Camping Loop offers 44 sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups, plus two ADA-accessible sites. All campsites include picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts, with restrooms and showers nearby. A primitive group campsite accommodates up to 48 people. Lake Tawakoni is known for excellent fishing, particularly for striped and hybrid striped bass, white bass, catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass. The park features a four-lane boat ramp, fish cleaning station, and a kids fishing pond. Kayak and canoe rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Nearly five miles of trails wind through the oak forest for hiking and mountain biking. The Lake Tawakoni Trading Post sells firewood, ice, fishing bait and tackle, snacks, and souvenirs. Argentine ants, an invasive species that does not sting, are present in some areas of the park.
