About
Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area encompasses 67 acres along the west bank of California's largest river. The park features 14 developed campsites nestled under riverbank cottonwoods and willows, each equipped with a table and barbecue. Sites accommodate tents, trailers, and motorhomes up to 27 feet, with two accessible campsites available. The park has been operated by the City of Colusa since 2012 and honors all California State Park passes. The Sacramento River at this location offers exceptional fishing opportunities, with king salmon runs in fall (September-October and November-January) and spring (April-June), steelhead from late August through October, striped bass from April through June, and shad from mid-May to mid-June. Anglers also catch catfish, carp, and sturgeon. The park provides a boat launch for small watercraft, though river levels and sandbar buildup can occasionally make the channel impassable. The river serves as a major migratory route on the Pacific Flyway, making the park excellent for birdwatching. The area has historical significance as well—the River Patwin tribe once lived nearby, and John Muir camped near this location in 1872. The park's convenient location within walking distance of downtown Colusa makes it ideal for campers who want easy access to town amenities while enjoying riverside camping.
