About

Jim Hogg Park occupies the north shore of Georgetown Lake, a reservoir on the San Gabriel River's north fork completed in 1979 for flood control. The campground sits roughly 25 miles north of Austin and 4 miles west of Georgetown in Texas Hill Country. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the facility, which includes 142 reservable campsites and five group camping shelters. All standard campsites feature electric hookups (20/30 amp in the northern loop, 50 amp in the southern loop near the lake), water connections, a covered picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 55 feet on paved back-in pads. Flush restrooms with hot showers and a centrally located dump station serve the campground. Georgetown Lake is known for smallmouth bass fishing, along with largemouth bass, white bass, hybrid stripers, crappie, and catfish. A boat ramp provides water access. The Goodwater Loop Trail, a 26-mile path circling the lake through juniper forest, hardwood bottomlands, and prairie grasslands, is popular with hikers and mountain bikers. Hunting for dove, waterfowl, rabbit, squirrel, and white-tailed deer is available by permit.
