About
Jim Hogg Park sits on the north side of Georgetown Lake, a reservoir on the San Gabriel River in the Hill Country of Texas, approximately 25 miles north of Austin. The dam was completed in 1979 for flood control and water supply, and the lake now provides extensive recreation opportunities. The park offers 142 reservable campsites with electric hookups, including four double sites in the upper loop and five large group camping shelters. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings. The lake is renowned for its smallmouth bass fishing and also contains black bass, white bass, hybrid stripers, white crappie, channel catfish, and flathead catfish. A boat ramp provides lake access for boating, fishing, and paddling. The San Gabriel River Trail is a rugged 26-mile trail that wraps completely around Georgetown Lake through dense juniper forest, hardwood bottomlands, and prairie grasslands, open to both hiking and mountain biking. Hunting is available by permit for dove, waterfowl, rabbit, squirrel, and white-tailed deer. The historic town of Georgetown is located 6 miles away with shops, restaurants, gas, and groceries. Austin's attractions are just 25 miles south. The park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and operates with a 14-day maximum stay limit.
