About
Russell Park is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground on the west shore of Georgetown Lake, a flood-control reservoir on the North Fork San Gabriel River completed in 1979. Located in the Texas Hill Country approximately 25 miles north of Austin and 8 miles west of Georgetown, the park offers primitive camping in a natural setting with juniper forest and prairie grasslands. The campground has 27 sites: 17 tent-only primitive sites and 10 screened shelters equipped with bunk beds (no bedding provided). This is strictly a tent and shelter camping area; no pop-ups, travel trailers, or motorhomes are permitted. Each site allows campfires and accommodates up to 8 people with a maximum of 2 vehicles. Flush toilets and drinking water are centrally located. Recreational opportunities include a swim beach, boat ramp, and fishing docks. Georgetown Lake is known for excellent smallmouth bass fishing, along with black bass, white bass, hybrid stripers, white crappie, and catfish. The 26-mile Goodwater Loop Trail circles the lake and is open for hiking and biking. Hunting is available by permit for dove, waterfowl, rabbit, squirrel, and white-tailed deer.
