About

Coal Creek Campground is a small, primitive campground in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, tucked beneath large ponderosa pine and oak trees at an elevation of 5,900 feet. The site sits near the Arizona/New Mexico state line and has long served as a convenient overnight stop for travelers heading through the area on AZ Highway 78. The campground offers a quiet, lightly-used setting with one vault toilet. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Coal Creek flows nearby on a seasonal basis, adding to the natural ambiance of this forested rest stop. There is no fee to camp here, and sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground sees light use, making it a good option for those seeking solitude or a simple place to spend the night while traveling through southeastern Arizona.
