About

Bighorn Campground sits at 4,757 feet elevation along US Highway 180 at the north end of Glenwood, New Mexico. The campground is primarily used for short-term stays of 1-2 days rather than extended camping, making it an ideal stopover or base camp for exploring the surrounding Gila National Forest. The campground's main draw is its proximity to the Catwalk National Recreation Area, a scenic trail built along the remnants of a historic water pipeline through Whitewater Canyon. Glenwood itself is within walking distance, providing access to basic services. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets and picnic tables at each site but no potable water. Campers must bring their own water supply. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees and a 14-day stay limit. Maximum of 2 vehicles per campsite. ATVs/OHVs, hunting, shooting, and pack animals are prohibited. Pets must be leashed.

Directions

Located 0.1 miles northwest of Glenwood, NM. From US Highway 180, the campground is on the west side of the highway at the north end of town.
