Beaver Pond State Park

Closed

Closed for the season. Opens April 18, 2025 for walk-in camping only through May 1. Regular season with reservations runs May 2 through October 12, 2025.

Special Weather Statement issued May 2 at 1:45PM EDT by NWS Upton NY

May 2nd, 1:45 PM — 8:00 PM

The combination of drying fine fuels, northwest wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread Sunday afternoon for the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

About

Beaver Pond Campground is situated within the 46,000-acre Harriman State Park in Rockland County, directly adjacent to the Lake Welch Recreation Area. The campground features 125 campsites designed to accommodate up to two tents and six people per site, with select sites able to accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet in length. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill. The campground provides full-service bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities, plus a dump station for RVs. However, there are no electrical hookups available. The location offers excellent access to outdoor recreation, with Lake Welch swimming beach within walking distance and immediate access to Harriman State Park's extensive network of hiking trails, including portions of the Appalachian Trail. The campground combines wilderness experience with proximity to New York City, making it a popular destination for both weekend getaways and longer stays. Fishing and boating are available on Lake Welch with appropriate permits. Campers should note that alcohol is not permitted at Beaver Pond Campground. During periods before and after the swimming season, events at Lake Welch may feature amplified music starting as early as 7:00 AM. The campground's proximity to the metropolitan area means it can be busy, particularly on weekends during peak season.
