About
Clackamas Lake Historic Cabin provides a unique glimpse into Depression-era Forest Service history within this well-preserved 1933 Civilian Conservation Corps ranger station. The 1,380 square-foot two-story cabin once housed the District Ranger and seasonal workers who traveled the district on horseback. Today, it retains its rustic charm with knotty pine interiors, semi-lunate half-round exterior siding resembling logs in the Cascadian style, and a massive rock fireplace. The cabin accommodates up to 8 guests across three bedrooms: a downstairs queen, an upstairs room with a full and twin bed, and another upstairs room with bunk beds and two twins. Modern conveniences include a fully equipped kitchen with propane refrigerator, range, and hot water heater. An old generator powers lights and outlets between designated hours (6-10 a.m. and 5-10 p.m.), with propane lanterns available for authentic old-fashioned ambiance. The bathroom features a flush toilet, sink, and shower. The 4-acre historic compound is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes a two-room visitor center museum staffed by on-site volunteer caretakers who provide interpretive tours. Located just a quarter-mile from 3-acre Clackamas Lake and 3 miles from Timothy Lake, the cabin offers easy access to fishing, swimming, hiking the Pacific Crest Trail via the nearby Miller Trail, and exploring the surrounding Mount Hood National Forest at 3,400 feet elevation.
