About
The Clackamas Lake Historic Cabin offers a unique overnight experience in a well-preserved Depression Era Forest Service building. Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this two-story cabin features classic rustic architecture with a massive rock chimney, knot-free interior paneling, and hand-wrought ironwork. The cabin is part of a historic ranger station compound that includes the old District Ranger's office, now serving as a visitor center and museum staffed by on-site volunteer caretakers. The 1,380 square foot cabin accommodates up to 8 guests across three bedrooms: a downstairs room with a queen bed, an east upstairs room with a full and twin bed, and a west upstairs room with bunk beds and two twins. Amenities include a fully equipped kitchen with propane range and refrigerator, bathroom with flush toilet and hot water shower, living room with fireplace insert, dining area, and sun porch. Electricity is provided by a generator operating 6-10am and 5-10pm, with propane lanterns available for other hours. Clackamas Lake offers fishing for cutthroat, brook, rainbow, and German brown trout, plus swimming and non-motorized boating. The 2.2-mile Miller Trail connects to the Pacific Crest Trail, and nearby 1,400-acre Timothy Lake provides additional recreation including power boating. Mt. Hood is less than 40 miles away for hiking and year-round skiing.
