Light to periodically moderate rain is expected for the lower Stehekin Valley this week along with melting snow as temperatures warm into the 40s and 50s. Flows in rivers will increase quickly and reach critical levels. * WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues for the lower Stehekin Valley. * WHERE...A portion of North Central Washington, including the following county, Chelan. * WHEN...Until 1100 PM PDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...When the Stehekin River gauge hits 19.3 feet, water breaches the river bank. At 20 feet, water inundates some properties and overtops the temporary corduroy bridge. Company Creek Road begins to flood in places at the northern end and Battalion Creek culverts are beginning to be overtopped. At 20.5 feet, water begins to damage Wood Road. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 924 PM PDT, the Stehekin River is at 19.9 feet. River levels will continue to rise through the week with an expected crest of 22.9 feet on Saturday. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Atkinson Flat Campground is located along the scenic Chiwawa River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, situated on the floor of a large glacial carved valley. The campground features 11 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis only, with no advance reservations possible. Visitors must physically arrive at the campground to claim a site. Access to the campground requires traveling about 16 miles on Chiwawa River Road (Forest Road 6200), with the final 5 miles being very rough gravel and dirt road that may not be suitable for low clearance vehicles. The campground sits at an elevation of 2,500 feet, approximately 20 miles from Fish Lake. Facilities are minimal, with vault toilets available but no potable water on-site. Each campsite costs $22 per night with an additional $11 fee per extra vehicle. Payment is handled via mobile Scan & Pay system, and visitors are encouraged to download the app before arrival as cell service may be limited. This remote location offers a peaceful camping experience in a beautiful glacial valley setting along the Chiwawa River.

Directions

From Leavenworth, take US-2 West for about 15 miles. At Coles Corner, turn right onto WA-207 North and travel 4.4 miles. Turn right onto Chiwawa Loop Road and go about 0.5 mile. Stay right onto County Highway 22 and travel 0.8 miles. Take the second left onto Chiwawa River Road/Forest Road 6200. Follow Chiwawa River/Forest Road 6200 for about 16 miles (road becomes rough gravel/dirt at 11-mile point). The campground will be on your left. The final 5 miles is very rough gravel and dirt, unsuitable for low clearance vehicles.
