About

Chellberg Farm Picnic Shelters is a day-use picnic area within Indiana Dunes National Park, situated near the historic Bailly Homestead (an 1820s fur trading post) and the Chellberg Farm, a preserved 1900-era Swedish farmstead. The facility offers three covered shelters close to the parking lot, making it convenient for group gatherings and family picnics. One shelter has electrical hookups available at $50 per day, while two non-electric shelters rent for $25 per day. Modern restrooms are located on-site. Cooking is permitted using the provided grills or approved carry-in grills. One of the shelters is designed for wheelchair access. This is strictly a day-use facility with hours from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm Central Time. There is no overnight camping permitted. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance. The surrounding area offers hiking trails, birdwatching opportunities, and access to the historic farm buildings during ranger-led tours and special events.

The picnic shelters are located at 618 North Mineral Springs Road (North 100 West), Porter, IN 46304.
