About
Chellberg Farm Picnic Shelters are located at a historic farmstead within Indiana Dunes National Park, offering visitors a unique combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage. The shelters provide day-use facilities in a scenic setting near the preserved Chellberg Farm, a Swedish-American homestead that has been part of the national park since 1972. The farm area features hiking trails including connections to the Bailly Homestead, Little Calumet River, and Mnoké Prairie trails. The picnic area serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding landscape of dunes, forests, and wetlands. Indiana Dunes National Park encompasses over 15,000 acres along 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, with 50 miles of trails traversing diverse ecosystems. The Chellberg Farm area offers a more intimate, forested setting compared to the park's beach areas, with opportunities to see historic buildings and experience the area's agricultural heritage through seasonal programs and demonstrations. Reservations for the picnic shelters can be made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. Day-use reservations are valid from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm. A valid park entrance pass or receipt is required for all visitors to Indiana Dunes National Park, which honors Federal interagency passes.
Directions
The picnic shelters are located at 618 North Mineral Springs Road (North 100 West), Porter, IN 46304. The facility is within Indiana Dunes National Park.
