About

Cedar Island State Park is a unique boat-access-only destination in New York's Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River. The park occupies approximately half of Cedar Island near Hammond, offering 18 campsites nestled in a lightly wooded setting. Each campsite includes one dock slip, making this an ideal base for watercraft enthusiasts. The park caters to visitors seeking peaceful recreation including fishing, canoeing, kayaking, jet-skiing, and sailing. A day-use picnic area with a pavilion is available nearby for gatherings. The remote island setting provides a quieter camping experience compared to mainland parks, though amenities are basic. There are no bridges or ferries to the island, so visitors must arrive by personal watercraft. Boat rentals are available at nearby Wellesley Island State Park Marina for those without their own vessel. The campground operates seasonally from late May through early September.

Directions

Accessible by boat only from the St. Lawrence River. The nearest public boat launch and parking is in the Village of Chippewa Bay. Boat rentals are available at Wellesley Island State Park Marina at (315) 482-6503.
