About

Cedar Island State Park takes up half of Cedar Island, located in Chippewa Bay on the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands region. Established in 1898 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation, this unique campground is accessible only by boat, making it a favorite for boaters seeking a peaceful, secluded camping experience. The campground features lightly wooded campsites that provide a natural setting while maintaining views of the beautiful river scenery. Each camping fee includes one dock slip, making it convenient for boaters to access their sites. The park offers excellent fishing opportunities in the surrounding waters and permits seasonal waterfowl hunting for those interested in game pursuits. In addition to camping, the park provides a day-use area with picnic facilities and a pavilion available for rental events. The island's quiet atmosphere and scenic beauty attract visitors who appreciate a more remote camping experience away from the mainland. The remainder of Cedar Island is privately owned, but the state park portion offers ample space for recreation and relaxation in one of New York's most picturesque regions.
