About
Aspen Grove campground occupies a scenic area within Curt Gowdy State Park, positioned along the Laramie Range between Cheyenne and Laramie at roughly 7,000 feet elevation. The campground's primary distinction is its proximity to a free public horse corral and large fenced pasture, making it the park's premier destination for equestrian campers. Sites include picnic tables and fire rings with grills but no utility hookups. The surrounding landscape features a striking mix of low-lying meadows, gently rolling hills, and dramatic steep granite formations. Three reservoirs within the park (Granite, Crystal, and North Crow) provide excellent fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, plus opportunities for water sports. Over 35 miles of multi-use trails accommodate hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The park visitor center offers flush toilets and showers daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no dump station at the park; the nearest options are in Cheyenne or Laramie, about 24 miles away. An archery range and the historic Hynds Lodge are additional park amenities.
Directions
From Cheyenne, take Happy Jack Road (WY-210) west approximately 24 miles to the park entrance. From Laramie, take WY-210 east approximately 24 miles.
