About

Canyon Campground is a small, rustic campground located 12 miles north of Banks, Idaho along State Highway 55 in Boise National Forest. Situated at 4,000 feet elevation in a scenic canyon above the North Fork Payette River, the campground offers 6 sites nestled among Ponderosa and lodgepole pines with ample shade throughout most of the campground. The North Fork Payette River runs alongside Highway 55, making this one of four campgrounds along this corridor between Banks and Smiths Ferry that provides excellent access to whitewater rafting and kayaking. Anglers will find good to excellent fishing for whitefish and rainbow trout in the river. Summer days are warm, reaching 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit, while nights cool off considerably. This is a fee campground operating on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Payment is by cash or check via fee envelopes and a collection box near the entrance.
