About

Camp Seven Lake Recreation Area sits on a scenic 60-acre lake in the lower third of Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The campground offers 41 single-family campsites set among large shade trees, with many sites providing lakefront access and privacy. Eleven sites feature electric hookups, and seven sites are specifically designated for accessibility. The campground provides a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites. The lake is a major draw for visitors, offering excellent opportunities for swimming from a sandy beach with a paved walking trail, boating, and fishing for smallmouth bass, bluegills, and perch. Anglers will find the lake well-suited for both shore and boat fishing. The 2-mile Van Winkle Lake loop trail begins near the campground and leads hikers through a spectacular paper birch stand overlooking quiet Van Winkle Lake, where waterfowl and wetland wildlife are commonly observed. Facilities include accessible vault toilets distributed throughout the campground, drinking water available from hand pumps, and a group picnic area that accommodates up to 25 people with tables, a campfire circle, and grill. Most campsites are equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. The location offers a perfect base for exploring the surrounding mixed hardwood forests and numerous lakes of the Hiawatha National Forest.
