About

Caribou Creek Cabin is a remote 12x14-foot log cabin situated on Resurrection Creek on the Eastern Kenai Peninsula. The cabin sits in spruce-birch forest with views of nearby mountains, accessible via the Resurrection Pass Trail. Located 7 miles from the north trailhead at Resurrection Creek Road or 31.8 miles from the south trailhead on Sterling Highway, the cabin offers a rustic backcountry experience. The cabin has bunk space for six with a maximum occupancy of eight people. It is equipped with a table, benches, a wood stove for heat, a splitting maul, and a crosscut saw. An outhouse is provided outside. The cabin has no electricity, potable water, mattresses, bedding, cooking utensils, or cut firewood. Visitors must bring sleeping bags and pads, a cook stove, cooking gear, food, and an initial water supply. Water from streams should be boiled for at least 5 minutes before consumption. The area offers opportunities for gold panning in designated areas along the trail, though active mining operations exist on private claims. Big game hunting is popular in season for moose, black and brown bears, Dall sheep, mountain goats, caribou, and wolves. Fishing in the area is poor. The trail is popular for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Winter travelers should be prepared to evaluate avalanche conditions, as some travel passes through avalanche run-out zones.

Directions

From Hope Highway on the Kenai Peninsula, follow Resurrection Creek Road to milepost 4 (Resurrection Pass North Trailhead) and hike 7 miles to the cabin. In winter, the last mile of Resurrection Creek Road is not plowed, adding one mile of travel. From the south, start at Resurrection Pass South Trailhead at milepost 53.2 on Sterling Highway and hike 31.8 miles to the cabin.
