About

Red Fir Flat Group Campground is a reservable group site located at 6,400 feet on the southern slope of Mt. Shasta in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The campground is set in an impressive stand of old-growth Shasta red fir, providing ample shade with some open sunny areas. While there are no views of the upper mountain from this location, the site offers views to the west and south including the Trinity Alps, Mount Eddy, and Castle Crags. The campground is particularly popular with meditation and retreat groups seeking peace and solitude in the forest setting. Several hiking trails are located nearby, including the trail to the historic Sierra Club stone cabin at timberline. Upper and Lower Panther Meadows, the South Gate Meadows access trail, and the Gray Butte trail are all within a few miles. Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, an established fire ring, and bear-proof trash receptacles. There is no potable water on site; campers must bring their own. The town of Mt. Shasta is 10 miles away and offers full services including grocery stores and restaurants.

From Interstate 5, take exit 738. Head east through the town of Mt. Shasta on Lake Street. Lake Street becomes Everitt Memorial Highway as it ascends the mountain. At approximately milepost 9, look for the campground entrance sign on the left.
