Red Fir Flat Group Campground occupies a serene location on the southern slope of Mt. Shasta at 6,400 feet elevation, surrounded by old growth Shasta red fir forest. The campground provides an ideal setting for meditation and retreat groups seeking peace and solitude in a natural mountain environment. The forest offers both shaded areas and open sunny spots, with westward and southward views encompassing the Trinity Alps, Mount Eddy, and Castle Crags. The campground accommodates groups between 12 and 30 people with facilities including multiple picnic tables, an established fire ring, bear-proof trash receptacles, and vault toilets. No water is available on-site, so visitors must bring their own drinking water. Limited garbage service is provided. Gathering dead and down firewood for use in the campground is permitted with a California Campfire Permit. Several hiking trails are located nearby, including routes to the historic Sierra Club Foundation stone cabin at timberline, Upper and Lower Panther Meadows, South Gate Meadows, and Gray Butte. The area also provides access to mountain bike trails and climbing routes to Mt. Shasta's summit. Mt. Shasta City, located 10 miles away, offers full services including grocery stores and restaurants.

Directions

From Interstate 5, take exit 738. Head east through the town of Mt. Shasta on Lake Street. Lake Street becomes the Everitt Memorial Highway as it ascends the mountain. At about milepost 9, look for the campground entrance sign on the left.
