Burns Run East

Open — Open year-round with some sites closed during off-season. Park fully opens April 1. Water hookups are shut off after November; one frost-free hydrant remains available for filling tanks. Entrance gates open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Burns Run East Campground occupies a scenic location on the southeastern shores of Lake Texoma, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground features 47 family campsites spread across rolling hills forested with post and blackjack oaks, with 44 sites offering both electric and water hookups. Amenities include flush and vault toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and a large group picnic shelter with electricity. The site provides direct lake access via two boat ramps and a courtesy dock, plus a designated swimming beach and playground for families. Lake Texoma is renowned as the Striper Capital of the World, one of the few U.S. reservoirs where striped bass reproduce naturally. Anglers also target largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white crappie, black crappie, channel catfish, and blue catfish. Beyond fishing, visitors enjoy boating, water skiing, swimming, and relaxing on sandy beaches. The scenic 14-mile Cross Timbers hiking trail winds above the lake on rocky ledges and through blackjack woodland, while 40 miles of equestrian trails circle the reservoir. Wildlife is abundant around the lake, with frequent sightings of deer, turkeys, bobcats, hawks, waterfowl, and songbirds. The campground sits in the Cross Timbers ecoregion, characterized by its distinctive mix of prairie and oak woodland. With restaurants and stores just half a mile away and entrance gates open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Burns Run East provides convenient access to the recreational opportunities of Lake Texoma, dubbed the Playground of the Southwest.
