Bumping Lake Campground

Bumping Lake Campground occupies a prime location on the south shore of Bumping Lake in the Cascade Mountains, east of Mount Rainier National Park. The glacially-formed lake and surrounding old-growth conifer forests create an exceptional setting for camping. The campground is divided into upper and lower sections, with 65 total sites spread across both loops. The lower section includes a boat ramp providing direct lake access for boating, water skiing, and fishing. The area supports diverse wildlife including deer, porcupine, native fish, and migratory birds, with nearby ecosystems providing habitat for Northern Bald Eagles, Northern Spotted Owls, and other species. Hikers and equestrians can access the 26-mile American Ridge Trail, which traverses forests and mountain meadows to connect with the Pacific Crest Trail. Mount Rainier National Park makes an excellent day trip destination. Each campsite includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and grill. Flush toilets and drinking water from hand pumps are available. Firewood can be purchased at the host site. Water is fill-jugs-only; RV hoses are prohibited at the spigots. The upper campground accommodates trailers up to 30 feet while the lower campground accepts trailers up to 50 feet.

Directions

From Naches, WA travel west on Highway 12 for 4.4 miles. Continue straight onto Highway 410 W for 27.5 miles to milepost 88.4. Turn left onto Bumping River Road / Forest Road 1800 and go 11.2 miles. Campground entrance is on the right. Upper campground is the first right; lower campground is at the end of the road to the left.
