About

Bumping Lake Campground sits along the forested shore of Bumping Lake, approximately 45 miles northwest of Naches in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The campground is divided into upper and lower sections, with the lower section featuring a boat launch. Barrier-free sites are available in both sections. The campground serves as a prime base for exploring the Cascade Mountains, with Bumping Lake being a popular destination for boating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming. The American Ridge Trail begins nearby, offering hikers and equestrians over 26 miles of scenic wilderness travel through towering forests, mountain meadows, and past high-elevation lakes before connecting to the Pacific Crest Trail. The area surrounding Bumping Lake was created naturally by glaciers and is fed by snowmelt, with old-growth conifer forests and rugged mountain terrain creating dramatic landscapes. The campground is operated by a third-party concessionaire and provides flush toilets, potable water from hand pumps, picnic tables, and fire pits. Wildlife in the area includes deer, porcupine, native fish, and migratory birds. Day trips to Mount Rainier National Park are popular among visitors seeking views of glaciers and volcanic landscapes.

Directions

From Naches, travel west on Highway 12 for 4.4 miles. Continue onto Highway 410 W for 27.5 miles until milepost 88.4. Turn left onto Bumping River Road/Forest Road 1800 and go 11.2 miles. Campground entrance is on right. Upper campground is the first right and lower campground is at end of road to the left. Note that Bumping River Road is plowed by Yakima County but may not be passable after winter snow storms.
