The campground is currently closed for the season and opens May 20, 2026. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. The gate is secured with a lock; the combination code is provided upon reservation confirmation.

The have issued an Air Quality Alert until 11 AM PDT Thursday. An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Kittitas, Klickitat, Walla Walla and Yakima Counties until further notice due to expected wildfire smoke from regional fires. Expect some clearing out and intermittent good air quality but with significant fires on the landscape conditions can worsen quickly to unhealthy air. Be sure to check air monitors in your area before outdoor activities. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity in smoky conditions. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating ventilation, cooling, and air purification systems. * Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible. The Washington State Department of Ecology, Benton Clean Air Agency, and the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency have issued an Air Quality Alert until further notice. For the Smoke Air Quality Alert, wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. Salmon Cove Group Campground sits at approximately 3,400 feet elevation along the scenic American River in Washington's eastern Cascade Range, about 40 miles west of Naches. The shaded, pebble-strewn riverbank setting provides an excellent base for groups seeking fishing, rafting, kayaking, and hiking opportunities. The American River offers rainbow and brown trout fishing in numerous deep pools along the shore. The site features a single large group area that can accommodate up to 60 people and 15 vehicles, with a 300-foot gravel driveway suitable for RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. Amenities include covered picnic tables, campfire rings, and vault toilets. Campers must bring their own drinking water or obtain it from a pitcher pump at Hell's Crossing Campground nearby. Nearby American Ridge Trail extends 26 miles from Bumping River to the Pacific Crest Trail, offering hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding through forests, meadows, and past alpine lakes. Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail and Mount Rainier National Park are also within reach for day trips.
Directions
From Naches, Washington, follow U.S. Highway 12 west to State Route 410. Take SR 410 for approximately 40 miles to milepost 83, where you will see an access road and gate for the site on the south side of the road.
