Hells Crossing Campground
Closed — Closed for the season due to snow. The campground typically operates from late spring through fall and is accessible for reservations via Recreation.gov when open.
About
Hells Crossing Campground is situated along the American River in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, within Washington's Cascade Range. The campground features 18 sites divided into two sections: an eastern section (sites 1-10) and a western section (sites 11-18), each with its own entrance. Sites include both standard and tent-only options, with picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Drinking water is available via hand pump at the western section, and vault toilets serve the campground. The American River, accessible directly from the campground, provides opportunities for fishing, swimming in its cold mountain waters, and whitewater rafting. The surrounding Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest offers extensive hiking opportunities, including access to the Pacific Crest Trail and the popular Boulder Cave National Recreation Trail. The forest landscape ranges from high glaciated alpine peaks along the Cascade Crest to old-growth valleys, with elevations spanning from below 1,000 feet to over 9,000 feet. Due to tight turns and trees close to the roads, the campground is not recommended for RV campers. The maximum trailer length is 20 feet. Sites are reservable through Recreation.gov during the operating season, with fees of $20 per night for single sites. The campground experiences warm, sunny summer weather and receives significant snowfall in winter, typical of the Cascade mountain environment.
