About
Buck's Pocket State Park Campground occupies a dramatic setting atop Sand Mountain, where the Appalachian foothills meet the Cumberland Plateau across DeKalb, Jackson, and Marshall counties in northeast Alabama. The park takes its name from the deep canyon carved by South Sauty Creek, creating a natural pocket in the mountain that has drawn visitors since the park's establishment. The renovated campground provides modern amenities while preserving access to the rugged terrain that defines this corner of the state. The campground features 23 developed RV sites, each with a 16-by-60-foot concrete pad, picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. Thirteen sites offer full hookups including water, power, and sewer, with four of these configured as pull-through sites for easier maneuvering. The remaining ten developed sites provide water and electric connections. For tent campers seeking a more rustic experience, 11 primitive sites are nestled in the wooded interior of the campground away from RV traffic. Amenities include high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the main campground area, a dump station, and bathhouses with both standard and ADA-compliant facilities. One developed campsite is designated ADA-accessible. The campground also serves as a base for the park's OHV trail system, with registered guests able to access the trails for an additional fee. A pavilion is available for group gatherings. Buck's Pocket is operated as a facility of Lake Guntersville State Park, with reservations available online or by phone up to one year in advance.
