About
Monte Sano State Park Campground occupies a scenic plateau on Monte Sano mountain, just minutes from downtown Huntsville. The campground divides into three site categories: primitive tent-only sites tucked into wooded areas, standard water and electric sites with gravel pads and 30/50 amp service, and premium full-hookup sites offering water, electric, and sewer connections along the bluff with views. Two modern bathhouses provide hot showers and coin-operated laundry facilities. The park surrounds campers with over 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails through hardwood forests. A Japanese garden, disc golf course, playground, and the Von Braun Planetarium provide diversions beyond the trails. The camp store stocks firewood and essentials, staying open year-round from 8am to 5pm. Two dump stations serve RV campers. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for weekends when a two-night minimum applies. Holiday weekends require three-night stays. The improved campground enforces a 14-day stay limit from March 1 through November 1, while primitive sites cap at five consecutive nights year-round. RVers should avoid GPS-directed routes via Bankhead Parkway and follow official directions from Governors Drive instead.
