About
Buck Park Cabin sits at 7,280 feet elevation within Buck Park, a scenic meadow surrounded by dense conifer forest on Cuddy Mountain in the Payette National Forest. This very rustic cabin accommodates a maximum of three people on metal cots. A wood stove provides heat and cooking capability, but there is no plumbing, electricity, or potable water. Guests must bring their own water, food, bedding, and firewood. A vault toilet is located outside, and the facility operates on a pack-it-in, pack-it-out basis. The remote location offers excellent hunting opportunities and access to hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails. Rush Lake is nearby, and Hornet and Lower Hornet reservoirs are a short distance away, providing fishing opportunities. A small corral with hitching racks is available for horses; certified weed-free hay is required. Access requires high-clearance vehicles and takes approximately 1.5 hours from Council, Idaho. The route involves 12 miles on paved Council-Cuprum Road, then 12 miles on gravel Buck Park Road 055, followed by 0.2 miles on Buck Park Spur. Trailers are not recommended. Snow typically makes access challenging after mid-October.
Directions
From Council, Idaho, drive 12 miles northwest on paved Council-Cuprum Road 002, then 12 miles southwest on gravel Buck Park Road 055 (high-clearance vehicles strongly recommended, trailers not advised). Continue 0.2 miles south on Buck Park Spur. Expect large rocks and a narrow one-way road. Total drive time from Council is approximately 1.5 hours.
