Fire Weather Watch issued December 29 at 10:46PM EST until December 30 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM EST TUESDAY UNTIL 7 PM EST TUESDAY FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY ACROSS NORTHEAST GEORGIA... .Very dry conditions are expected to develop across northeast Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, with relative humidity dropping as low as 20% (and isolated locations potentially dropping below 20%). Winds will remain breezy on Tuesday, though not as breezy as today, with gusts of 20-25mph possible throughout most of the day. Fine dead fuel moisture is expected to to fall below 10%, and land managers have expressed concern about these coinciding conditions. Although winds do not technically meet strict RFW criteria, the combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity, and breezy winds will nonetheless be favorable for rapid spread of wildfires across the warned area. * AFFECTED AREA...Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart and Elbert. * TIMING...From Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. * WINDS...Northwest 5 to 10 mph. * HUMIDITY...Values as low as 20% are expected. * FUEL MOISTURE...10-hour fuel moisture expected to fall below 10% Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
About
Watsadler Campground is one of Hartwell Lake's most popular year-round camping destinations, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on 36 acres of densely wooded terrain featuring pine and mixed hardwoods. Located near Hartwell Dam, the campground overlooks the main body of the lake and provides excellent access to Hartwell's 962 miles of shoreline. The facility offers 51 public campsites, all equipped with water and 50-amp electric hookups, making it suitable for RVs and trailers. Three comfort stations serve the campground, with two providing shower facilities. Additional amenities include a dump station, boat ramp with courtesy dock, and two playgrounds for families. Many sites are positioned along the waterfront, offering scenic lake views. Hartwell Lake, a man-made reservoir on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers, straddles the Georgia-South Carolina border and is renowned for bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass fishing. The lake supports diverse water activities including boating, water skiing, and swimming at designated beaches. The campground enforces a gate lock policy from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and prohibits alcohol on the premises.
