Forest Order - Recreation Sites, Roads, and Trails

The net effect of this order is to reopen Kinnikinnick Campground and Florence Lake Picnic Area (i.e removing them from Exabit A of the Forest Recreation Closure list).

About

Bretz Mill Campground sits alongside Big Creek in the Sierra National Forest, surrounded by pines and oaks at a lower elevation that makes it accessible when higher-elevation campgrounds are still under snow. Some campsites are positioned directly on the creek, offering streamside camping. The campground is maintained by the Mountain Toppers 4WD club and serves as a popular base camp for OHV enthusiasts exploring the area. This is a primitive, no-fee campground with basic facilities. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. There is no trash service; pack out everything you pack in. Cell phone service is not available in the campground area. Access is via paved roads, though the campground has a 24-foot maximum vehicle length limit. The nearest services are in Prather or Shaver Lake, approximately 40-45 minutes away. Maximum stay is 14 days, with a limit of 6 people per site.

Directions

From Fresno, travel east on Highway 168 through Prather to the 4-way stop (park and ride on right). Turn left toward Shaver Lake, travel 8.8 miles, turn right on Tollhouse Road, travel 0.7 mile, turn left on Peterson Road, travel 10.7 miles to road 10S02 (Peterson Road becomes 10S02), travel 4 miles then turn left into the campground.
